The Basics
Maintaining your website is easy, here are some useful tips
- Keep your content clean! Write compelling, concise, and clear content. Avoid ALL CAPS for consistency.
- Give your items/articles an appropriate title and assign to correct category. Don’t add title alias.
- Headings - To create headings (and keep things consistent in the site), highlight the text to be made a heading and under Format, start with Heading 2 then Heading 3 (Heading 1 is usually used already by the page title). You can preview your headings from the Style Guide shortcut in your dashboard. Be consistent and work from h2 down for best accessibility. Don’t add links to headings.
- Line break (but not hard return) - Click Shift and then Enter to get a line break. In the site’s code this differs from a hard return which will create a paragraph space between lines.
- Bold, Underline, or Italics - Use these sparingly for impact, avoid underlines as they tend to look like links and are bad for accessibility.
- Alignment – Avoid centering text whenever possible for best accessibility/useability best practices. Also avoid justified alignment. Left-aligned is best.

Community Engagement
Green Room Gallery
SLAC maintains an active gallery to showcase and sell the work of local visual artists in rotating exhibitions inspired by productions on our stage. The Green Room Gallery is a space for conversation, enjoyment, and reflection, but most importantly, it is another way for SLAC to support Utah artists.
Post-Play Discussions
Following the first Sunday matinee of each play, SLAC invites the audience to stay for a free discussion with the artistic team. Thoughtful conversation among our audience and artists brings a deeper understanding of and connection to the issues and themes particular to each play.
Panel Discussions
Free and open to the public, SLAC’s panel discussions explore the big questions raised in each play. Guided by the themes of a particular play, SLAC invites scholars and experts from the community to serve as panelists. Our audience is a vital part of these conversations, connecting the stories onstage to contemporary life. We cherish our partnership with Utah Humanities Council which supports these events.
Free ZAP Tuesdays
Thanks to Salt Lake County’s Zoo, Arts, and Parks program, Free ZAP Tuesdays allow SLAC to say thank you to our community. Free and open to the public, these nights were established to accommodate those with financial obstacles preventing them from experiencing live theatre. These free Tuesday evening performances are always well attended and warmly received. Many thanks to ZAP for supporting SLAC’s work.
Community Partnerships and Outreach
Each year we expand and serve as a greater resource to our community by forming community partnerships inspired by the themes of our plays. This season we were delighted to partner with Utah Humanities Council, Utah Pride Center, Art Access, Her Campus, Washington Elementary School, Salt Lake County Animal Services, The King’s English Bookstore, Flourish Bakery, Ballet West, and Equality Utah.
These organizations are crucial to Utah’s growing culture and we are proud to share them with our audience. We honor these partnerships online, in our host speech before each performance, on our postcards, and in our playbills. In addition to these partnerships, SLAC is proud to donate space to organizations like the University of Utah’s Sociology Department, The Inn Between, Don’t Panic, Listen!, and acting classes – led by our stellar community of acting teachers – for girls from Eva Carlston Academy who are overcoming trauma.
Emerging Theatre Artist Pass
Emerging Theatre Artist Pass
At $8 per play, this $32 ticket package means a guaranteed seat to all of our regular season plays.
Details
When pass holders know which performance they would like to attend, they simply call the theatre for a seat. We offer free exchanges on all tickets in the event the date they choose no longer works for them. This flexibility is vital as they attempt to balance their own productions, classes, work, and other responsibilities.
Also included in the pass is access to free masterclasses at SLAC over the course of the season, featuring prominent visiting and local directors, actors, designers, and playwrights. Masterclasses like these can cost well over $100. However, SLAC is offering these invaluable interactions with working professionals in the theatrical community to our student pass-holders for free.

Professional Theatre Program for Emerging Artists
This program nurtures Utah’s theatre students by giving them the opportunity to work in a professional production. To date SLAC has created over 150 production-based paid positions for university enrolled students who have received crucial experience as actors, assistant stage managers, assistant directors, and assistant designers, all thanks to this program's support. Each season, we hope to expand this program to mentor more students from local universities, providing them an educational experience outside the classroom they can only get by working alongside established theatre artists. Support for this program develops Utah’s future artists, bringing these students one step closer to actualizing their dreams of a professional career in theatre.
Anna Blaes from the University of Utah said this of the program: “The Professional Theatre Program has helped me greatly in learning about the real-world experiences and application of Theatre Design. It has given me insight into my professional growth, personal style, and provided me with both difficult challenges and rewarding victories!
Our thanks to the following foundations and corporations for their generous support of this program:
- The John and Marcia Price Family Foundation
- Terence Kearns Stephens Charitable Trust
- B.W. Bastian Foundation

Title I Arts Education Program
“With budget cutbacks in schools, the arts program is limited, especially for Kindergarten. This exposure activates their right brain to restore balance to their education.”
- Kirstin Berez, Kindergarten Teacher, Riley Elementary
Through SLAC's Title I Arts Education Program, over 2,000 students are welcomed into our theatre to see our children’s play, over ten free field trip matinee performances. Children fill the theatre with their classmates and watch a well-loved children’s book come to life on stage. This program is unique in that it is created exclusively for them, by a professional theatre company–and it inspires a love for reading, ignites creativity, and explores life’s endless possibilities.
SLAC launched its annual professional children’s production in 2009, including free field trip performances for underserved Title I schoolchildren. Title I schools serve low-income and more academically at-risk students. As a refuge city, the Salt Lake community welcomes families from across the globe. With a greater number of ethnic minority students than Caucasian, Salt Lake City School District is a minority-majority district with more than 100 languages spoken by its students and families.
The transformative power of theatre is never more apparent than when these students exit the theatre. Children that entered the building unsure of what to expect and shy shower us with gratitude, hugs and laughter as they leave. They thank us with letters and artwork, candidly critique our work, and make suggestions for the future. We take these joyous interactions and responses seriously and convey them to the staff and artistic crew. The words of these students are true gifts; they let us know we are on the right track in our theatrical endeavors and revitalize the entire theatre with their sincere appreciation for the work of all the artists who bring these stories to life on our stage.
Program Feedback from Teachers
“Many of our children simply would not ever get to experience the theatre without this opportunity. Thank you! The casts in your children's shows are always so perfect. They know how to keep children engaged and giggling without losing them.” -Woodrow Wilson Elementary
“Most lower socio-economic students would not have this opportunity at all without this invitation. I believe students are more connected to performing these days with the influence of social media. Having an appropriate educational experience with a professional acting company allows students to see that acting may be a viable option for themselves.” -Franklin Elementary
“This was great for them to experience theater. Many students do not get opportunities like this. Also making the connection between literature they have already read , or exposing them to books they might want to read makes reading exciting.” -North Star Elementary
